When Devine Designs received an email from Sue Ellen in Hudson, Ohio we just knew we had to help! In part she wrote, “After looking at your website, I am pretty sure that you are the solution I have been looking for.  I live in a 40-year old colonial in the older part of Hudson.  In the last five years I have made  several pitiful attempts to redecorate, but I just don't have the ‘touch’.  I even called in a couple of local decorators, but they are used to working for people with new homes and/or unlimited budgets,  which is the norm in this area.  One designer even said to me, ‘You are  trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.’  Of course, I was discouraged!

“We have a number of antiques and some unique items that  I know could look lovely if displayed properly.  I haven't hung much  on the walls -- I lack the confidence to choose the right things.  The house has a lot of charm --hardwood floors, a bit of a ‘cottage’  feel--and I'd like to capitalize on these assets. The prices for your services seem quite reasonable, and as long as you don't recommend $600  lampshades and $800 custom drapes, there may be hope for this old  house.  If you think you'd like to tackle this job, please call or e- mail.”

After an initial design consultation, we scheduled a day of redesign. To help the home function better, Devine Designs suggested making the front room – which had been a music room where Sue Ellen’s son practiced his instruments – a living room. This suggestion made sense on two fronts: 1. the front room was the largest room in the house – making it a place the entire family could enjoy made sense. 2. the change would create a warm and welcoming place upon entering the home. Sue Ellen agreed and said she’d never really thought of making that change. We then transformed a little-used dining room into the new “music room”. We moved a beautiful piano, hand-painted in a traditional Russian design, against the gorgeous pumpkin-colored wall. WOW! Did that showcase the piano. Before it had been hidden in the front room – now the piece really shined and highlighted the family’s Russian heritage!

What did Sue Ellen think? In an email she wrote to Devine Designs the night of the redesign, she said, “thank you again for adding warmth and character to our home!  I am basking in the glow of the redesigned rooms.”
